Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, and The Shoestring Wants to Give You Art

Local artists Lydia Berry and Kate Nadel have teamed up on a beautiful art map we are offering to our donors.

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday — a day each year when community-minded people around the country support the causes that are important to them.

For The Shoestring, it’s a day when we need to see a major show of support from our community of people in western Mass who value the labor-intensive journalism we bring you every week.

That’s why this Giving Tuesday, in addition to giving you journalism, we want to give you art.

Local artists and supporters of The Shoestring Lydia Berry and Kate Nadel have teamed up to produce an art map of this river valley we love so much, risograph printed at Looky Here in Greenfield.

“While planning out this piece I wanted to play with natural geographic contours and human-made boundaries as my main graphic elements,” Berry said. “Most of the time when I’m looking at maps of our region, it’s one or the other, and I wanted to see what a combination of both looked like.”

The colorful 11×17” poster is printed in the four-tone color palette of the risograph on high quality warm-toned cardstock. (Exact colors and design may vary during the printing process).

Your one-time tax deductible donation of $200 or more, or a $15/month or more recurring donation, will score you one of these limited edition prints, hand delivered to your house by Massive Bookshop (local deliveries only). And, if we can hit our goal of giving out fifteen posters to one-time donors and 20 to recurring donors, it will net The Shoestring over $13,000 thanks to matches from NewsMatch and generous local donors.

Your donations are more important than ever. So far, our year-end fundraiser has brought in just under $15,000 in individual donations and matches — or, about one quarter of the goal we set to get us started on the right foot in 2024. Let’s keep up this momentum! We still have lots of matching dollars left to earn, meaning your individual donations are still TRIPLED! We have big dreams for growing The Shoestring next year, but you, our readers, hold the key to getting us there.

For one time donations, you can claim your poster directly on Fundrazr starting Tuesday morning by selecting it as a “perk” for your donation. For recurring donations of $15/month or more, please leave a comment in your donation that you would like a poster and we will email you to confirm. And as always, reach out to us at theshoestringmag [at] gmail.com anytime with questions.

It’s not often you get a chance to sustain free access to local news in your community and walk away with some beautiful artwork — don’t miss out! Particularly if you’re stumped on what to get that local news-lover in your life this holiday season.

Yours truly,

The Shoestring
